Hark! the Herald Angels Sing for String Quartet
One of the first string quartets I wrote, when four-part harmony finally started making sense to me. One question I had at this time was whether to focus on each part having a good melody, or the parts lining up to form good chords. I think the answer is that both should be good, and it is a bit of a mathematical coincidence whether it is possible (it might be very difficult depending on the melody and the chord progression). I.e. music should make sense both horizontally and vertically. Looking back, the harmonizations are probably not the best, but I still hope it’s an enjoyable listen. (Contains voice part for singing along. Needs slurs)
